What are the most common causes of truck accidents?

As you drive around in Georgia, you’ll typically see a mixture of vehicles like yours and much larger trucks on this state’s roads. Unfortunately, it only takes one moment for peaceful roads to turn into accident scenes. With that in mind, here are a few of the most common reasons truck accidents happen.

Mechanical-related issues

It takes many parts to keep a commercial truck running smoothly. Considering that, many trucking accidents happen after one or several of these parts becomes faulty. It only takes one faulty tire or brake system to make a commercial truck an incredibly dangerous vehicle.

Long stopping distances

Another reason commercial truck collisions happen involves stopping distances, which is how long a vehicle takes to stop. Because commercial trucks are so much larger and heavier than other automobiles, they take much longer to come to a stop. Even if a truck driver is alert, long stopping distances sometimes make crashes unavoidable. If a truck driver isn’t paying attention, long stopping distances can make roadways even more dangerous.

Drowsy driving

There’s no denying that many truck drivers are hard workers. Unfortunately, being a hard worker in the trucking industry can have you behind the wheel for extremely long hours. Making matters worse, many truck drivers spend considerable periods driving during the night. When these factors combine, they can result in a trucker falling asleep behind the wheel.

If you find yourself dealing with the aftermath of a collision with a large truck, contact emergency services right away. More often than not, these accidents can lead to a wide range of serious injuries.
